Second-to-last run before the half-marathon!

This was one of those “PLEASE JUST LET IT BE OVER” runs. It was warmer and sunnier than I’m used to — so, basically, that means the sun was actually out in Seattle — and I got hot/sweaty/thirsty much faster than usual.

I could tell I was swallowing air bubbles along with my water, and sure enough I got some wicked cramps right at mile 2. I tried to push through them, but ended up pulling over for a minute to recover.

I’m excited for the nice, cool weather at the start of the half — 7 a.m., wheee!

Today, I got that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach that I always get a few days before races… except today is MONDAY and the race is SATURDAY!

The nerves definitely affected my run tonight. It was tough to relax and just run. I kept having to tell myself, “Relax. You know how to do this. Don’t overthink it.”

I have a ton of support coming from friends, loved ones, Tumblr homies and Twitter friends, but I’ll still be nervous right up until the first step of that half-marathon! That’s just how I am. But I take comfort in knowing that once I run that first step, I’ll have an absolute blast…

And hopefully kill it.

Last long run of the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon training plan. Race day is a week from tomorrow!!

Aaron and I kinda felt like kicking the shit out of mile 8.

Did I tell you guys about the naked bicycle parade that’s going on in Seattle tomorrow? No? Well, there is one, and I’m gonna be in it.

Not naked exactly. You can read about it here. I’ll post photos afterward, and they’ll be safe for all eyes, so no worries.

Can’t pass up a good naked bike parade. (That should be on a t-shirt.)

Therapeutic exercise

I was bummed yesterday following news of the unexpected passing of a family member.

I left work early, but only after successfully delivering my first presentation to the company without crying. Push through!

I relaxed at home, did some writing (that no one will ever read), and decided that exercise would lift my spirits.

It turns out that my gym is almost exactly a mile away from my house! My lazy butt had been driving there and back.

1 mile run to the gym: 8:53
Power yoga class: 75 minutes
1 mile run home: 8:16

It was 9 p.m. by the time I ran home, but it was still plenty light out here in the Pacific Northwest (love). The evening was clear and just turning cold. My muscles were stretched out and relaxed. I ran fast. It felt good.

There are some things you can’t change, but you can always adjust your attitude.

4 mile run tonight. Happy with it.

I saw a girl crash her bike while I was on my run and her helmet broke apart. She was OK. Thank goodness she was wearing a helmet.

I found out today that someone close to me fell and broke his hip. He was not OK. He passed away due to other complications and old age.

Tough day. Really tough.
