I’m in Portland! Can you tell?

(I was actually just trying to take a pic of these greens at a farmer’s market, but the tattooed hipster was a bonus.)

I bought local lettuce, tomato, cucumber, zucchini and snap peas to enjoy while I’m here. The weather is spectacular and the conference excitement is building! (It officially kicks off Friday night.)

I’m off to some sort of food-and-drinks meetup in the SE part of the city. Time to get the party started!

For this 4th of July run, I decided to dress like an Easter egg! Pink and purple for life.

I ran/walked from Aaron’s house to Green Lake, all the way around and back for a total of 4.5 miles while Aaron biked alongside me. It’s a RARE beauuuutiful day in Seattle, and I was so happy to be able to do something active with Aaron again!

I did a quarter-mile walking warmup followed by intervals of 0.5 mi running/0.1 mi walking, which equaled a total of 3.5 miles of running. 10:30-ish seems to be a comfortable pace.

My shins have been feeling touchy on previous runs, so I busted out my beloved compression sleeves and they worked like a charm.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!!

Here’s the thing about starting something over from square one.

You can feel discouraged, overwhelmed and angry.

It can seem frustrating and unfair.

You can waste plenty of time comparing your current situation to your past and wishing you could magically go back.

BUT. You can always look at it as a chance to start fresh… set goals… work hard… and become better than ever.

I’ve still got a long way to go until I’m running anywhere near as far or as fast as I used to, but I’m surprising myself every day with what I’m capable of doing.

I’m progressing much more rapidly than my running program recommends, but it feels right for me and I’m not hurting myself.

Today I did four intervals of walking 0.25 and running 0.5 and my ankle felt stronger the longer I ran.

My endurance is still lacking, but that will come back over time.

I’m feeling more like the runner — and person — I used to be.

I can’t wait until I feel completely solid and and can start training for a 4:00 marathon.

I’m kinda liking this square one.

Can we talk about LOFT for a second?

I kind of hate shopping for clothes, and more often than not, I just wear cheap Old Navy t-shirts and tank tops with jeans. I also got rid of a bunch of things before I left on my trip, and the clothes I’m left with are all pilled and homeless-y from extensive wear around the world.

I have some trips coming up (Portland, Hawaii, ITALY) and wanted to get a few nice non-t-shirt things, and I hit the jackpot at LOFT. I tried on practically the entire store because everything is so cute. And everything is 40% off right now in stores and online, YOU’RE WELCOME.

Anyway… here are a few things I bought. Yay.

– Blue dress and belt (can’t find the belt on the Web site!)

Striped top

Capelet (never thought I’d buy one, but so comfy)

Yellow top

Cheating

Plans are nice… but sometimes you have to take a little detour.

My “walk 0.25/run 0.25” plan for this week turned into “walk 0.25/run 0.5” on Sunday morning. After the first interval, I just felt like running longer. And it felt good!

The plan my PT gave me is great for easing back into running, but I’ll use it as a guideline rather than a mandate. I won’t rush into running long distances — I’ll just do what feels right for my ankle. The last thing I want to do is reinjure it!

Speaking of veering off of plans… Aaron and I had a big (intentional) Paleo “cheat” day on Saturday:

Breakfast: Pancakes with butter and syrup; cinnamon rolls
Lunch: Tacos
Dinner: Macaroni and cheese; pizza (Aaron had not eaten pizza in over a year, and it’s his favorite food!)
Dessert: Dairy Queen cookie dough Blizzards

Holy. Cow. I don’t recommend that anyone eat like this EVER, but I feel like I indulged all of my cravings, and I don’t need to eat any of those things again for a very, very long time!

I predicted that eating those foods would make me feel sick, but I didn’t; I just felt very full and tired. I was extreeeeemely happy to eat Paleo all day on Sunday, and call me crazy, but the Paleo food I ate on Sunday tasted so much better than anything I ate on Saturday. I think my tastes have changed quite a bit.

Now I’m off to my LAST session of physical therapy!
