Notes from Monday:

  • I’m down 2.4 pounds since last Monday. I usually don’t keep too close an eye on my weight, but when my jeans start feeling too tight, I know it’s time to refocus on healthy eating and fewer desserts/alcoholic beverages. This also helps me feel better – and run better – overall. (And my jeans fit well today.)

  • I got my hair cut yesterday, but you’d never know because my girl is quite skilled at getting rid of split ends while avoiding that awkward “I just got my hair cut and it won’t look normal for another five days” thing. You know what I mean.

  • I took the trouble to put on makeup, straighten my hair and wear something other than a t-shirt today. Because…

  • I got enough sleep last night, and it was awesome. Must do this more often!

Hope everyone’s having a great start to the week!

Jen sent me the link to our run as recorded by her Garmin 405. Yeahhh, I’m happy with this one!!

Also happy with the three-hour nap I just took. Also happy with the decision to now go eat massive amounts of fro-yo with Aaron.

Uhhh, yes, I’m going to make a meal out of it. And?

7.5 miles in 1 hour, 14 minutes! A great long run with Jen (DetermiNation coach and Boston marathoner) and another guy (forgetting his name).

Somehow both of my ankles got muddy in the same spot. Hmm.

My 15K is two weeks from today! Jen advised me to start trying Gu and Shot Blok-type things in preparation for that race and for the half-marathon. Anyone have any faves I should try?

GOOD LUCK to everyone on their races, and CONGRATS to those of you who’ve already killed one today!

We all use common dishes at work, and some off the mugs are pretty random. I’ve learned plenty of interesting factoids while drinking my tea.

I guess there’s some baby-mama drama going on amongst bass, but the male bass sounds pretty legit. Savagely defend that nest!

I usually start craving something sweet, hmm, IMMEDIATELY after finishing my lunch.

I’ve found that the sweetness/tartness/crunchiness of grapes satisfies that craving in place of a cookie (or five) or some sugary cereal.

Luckily, my co. provides free grapes (and other fruit), so I can almost always choose the healthier way to satisfy my afternoon craving. I also snagged a tangerine-thing for the inevitable late-afternoon craving.

Satisfying a craving with something healthy works much better for me than just trying to ignore it completely!

“Just put the miles behind you.”

That’s what I told myself over and over as I dragged for 4.5 miles tonight.

I feel like I’m just about to get sick and it could really go either way. I figured I’d run anyway and maybe the exercise would kill whatever was making my throat sore. I didn’t figure that I’d struggle to run at a 10:15+ pace when I had such a great track run two days ago!

It was rough and a definite bummer, but I finished, so I’m proud of that. It helped that I took a break by the Fremont Canal when I had about 1.5 miles left to go. I stretched and looked at the water. I blew a few snot rockets. I felt better after that.

I live for great runs, the ones that make me feel invincible, like my 10K.

But even though this one was pretty miserable, I was still grateful to be out there, smelling the earthy scent of Seattle in its perpetual state of spring dampness. It was nice to turn my face up to the sky and smile when it started misting rain. And only while running is it appropriate to straight-up blow snot rockets in public.

Yes, I’m even grateful for the miserable runs.
