Today was quarterly bonus day at work. My job is pretty fast-paced and stressful, but Christmas comes four times a year and makes it all worth it. I squirrel (most of) my loot away in savings like a good girl, but I might treat myself to some running swag : D
It’s sprinkling outside, but I’m gonna return to the local track and get a nice run in tonight.
Tomorrow night is a double date with new friends.
Saturday is my long run, a haircut and my mom’s birthday dinner (as well as her actual birthday).
Sunday is Aaron’s final birthday celebration – the Chris Cornell acoustic concert.
Plus, I get to cheer on all of you who are gonna dominate races this weekend, then read your exciting recaps! Oooh, how I love recaps!!!

It’s Gangster Argyle Thursday!
Anyone? Anyone?

I’m currently making all this happen for dinner. Making my own veggie-based pasta sauce with some beans for protein. I have no idea what I’m doing, but that’s the fun! Choose your own adventure!
Anyway, I’ve decided to train for my half-marathon at my own pace and not get stressed out (i.e. have a panic attack) by putting too much pressure on myself to follow the DetermiNation schedule. Unfortunately, I still have a little shin pain the day after I run, so I need to alternate running days with strength/yoga/cross/rest days.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
Monday: cardio/strength/core DVD (Ms. Jillian Michaels)
Tuesday: track run with the team (alternating speed/hill workouts)
Wednesday: power yoga
Thursday: run on my own
Friday: rest
Saturday: long run with the team
Sunday: cross-train (bike, walk, yoga)
I loved the power yoga class that I went to tonight. The teacher was great and the class was fast-paced enough that I sweated a decent amount, plus felt the strengthening moves in my arms and legs. I realized I need at least one yoga class a week to calm down, stretch out and get my zen on, and this one is perfect.
Life is looking up! I’m excited!
This, on repeat, all day.
I realize I’m extremely late to the party on this one, but a party’s still a party! “And the party don’t start till I walk innnn…”
I finally went to a Tuesday-night track workout with the DetermiNation team. I haven’t been to a single one since I joined the team because:
I’ve been too intimidated.
I’ve been too lazy.
I’ve felt too behind the group because I’ve been too intimidated and too lazy to train with them.
B.S., I know. I finally went and it was AWESOME. I realized how much I underestimate myself. Maybe I’m behind the group in mileage, but I’m not behind at all in terms of fitness and how much I gave to the workout last night.
We did some warmups and a few laps around the track, then ran to a park and did hill repeats. I did 8 or so – I stopped counting. On the last one, I powered up the hill steadily, feeling strong and energized, and the coach (who, by the way, consistently kills 5Ks in the 17- to 19-minute range) said, “Perfect form!!”
Such a confidence-booster. Definitely not afraid of hills anymore. Thank you, Rose, if you’re reading!!
I came home with a huge smile on my face and a new commitment to give half-marathon training all I’ve got. I’m going to tweak the official schedule a bit to better accommodate my needs, but more on that later.
Plus, I discovered the local high-school track was quite possibly constructed in heaven. It was so nice and cushiony and lovely to my legs. I felt like I could run reeeeally fast if I wanted to. I’ll find that out soon!

3. I’ve added Disqus comments to my blog, so all you non-Tumblr folks and your moms should be able to comment. And my mom can now comment! (Mom? You there?)
Leave a comment so I know that it works! Shoot me an “Ask” if it doesn’t. Yay for comments!

Long story short, I highly recommend you bring your own event photographer. This one’s pretty cute! He even accepts payment in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. (Not really. But really.)
