Nuun pong at Green Lake

Yes, Nuun pong happened!!!

Carly and I met up with a running group at Super Jock ‘n’ Jill by Green Lake for a quick 3-mile run around the lake (8:50 pace). We had planned to run 3 miles tonight anyway, so it worked out perfectly!

Grilled hot dogs and plenty of Nuun were waiting for us when we finished. Carly and I were one of the first teams up for Nuun pong — there was an actual bracket set up of eight teams — and we were in it to win it!

Except for the part where we lost… in the first round.

It came down to a single-cup shootout on both sides, and I’ll admit that both teams kinda sucked equally. The guys just happened to take us down first. Oh, well.

We still got nice Nuun water bottles that we filled with what was apparently a mixture of several kinds of Nuun in that cooler. It still tasted good, even though I couldn’t really pick out which flavors were in there!

We had a great time even though we didn’t come anywhere close to winning the year’s supply of Nuun. Thanks to the fact that I randomly learned of this event via The Twitter, our evening run turned into a nuuntastic good time!

(I also discovered that my fuel belt works great as a banana holster.)

Marathon training update

Forgot to post this link ‘til now! I was too busy looking up crazy Ironman races and preparing for a last-minute nuun-pong competition. How much is a year’s worth of nuun, anyway? One tube per week? I go through nuun like crazy.

ANYWAY. Here’s a new post about my marathon training, which also includes a bunch of links to my favorite non-Tumblr running blogs:

Marathon Training: Week 8

Run of champions

Here you go, friends. This was the toughest run of my life:

(Does anyone know how to keep the split-seconds from showing up in this chart?? It’s driving me nuts.)

Anyway, what was going to be a low-key Friday night at home turned into a “let’s go out and DANCE!” night with two girlfriends. We enjoyed some adult beverages and danced our faces off ‘til closing time, which I haven’t done in a really, really long time! It was so fun.

Against all odds, this 12-miler happened Saturday morning.

The first two miles were slowww because I attempted to run the mile over to Carly’s place, but I got a sharp pain in my side (liver? heh) and had to walk much of the way. Carly and I set out very slowly (she was one of my partners in crime the previous night), but fell into a better pace once we got through the initial pain.

She ran one loop of Lake Union with me, and then I dropped her off back at her place and continued on to finish my 12. I accidentally left my Garmin on as we said our goodbyes, so that’s why mile 8 looks quite a bit slower.

The last four miles were much less fun since I ran by myself, but I was determined to get them done. It was tough, and I considered using the “run 10 minutes/walk 1 minute” method, but I’m a glutton for punishment and just ran ’em.

I don’t recommend staying out ’til 2 a.m. and then running for two solid hours the next morning, but somehow it worked out! I won’t be doing that again for a veryyy longgg time though, if ever.

We had friends over Saturday night to make personal pizzas! We used surprisingly yummy Pillsbury pizza dough, and just set out a bunch of pizza toppings and let everyone go to town. My pizza was delicious and I ate the whole thing as we watched Country Strong, which I highly recommend!

Today is a windy, rainy, blah day in Seattle, so my morning bike ride with a friend was canceled. I think I’m going to clean my room and just chill today.

Have a good Sunday, everyone!

Several things:

1. Last night, I ran 3 miles (26:something) and then did a 75-minute power flow yoga class with my BFF/running buddy Carly, who just joined my gym. Wooooo!

2. Hightly related to item #1: My quads are on fire today. I think if some Tumblrites wanted to start a band, it could be called Quads On Fire. We would do lunges and get drunk on nuun and high on Gu all the time. Someone with musical talent could play an instrument, maybe.

3. Today’s Answering Oliver post is called You’re Allowed a U-turn, and it’s about how I almost became a boxed-wine alcoholic (no, seriously), but decided to go in a completely different direction and become a runner, triathlete, healthy eater, blogger, photographer and someday-Ironman instead. (I think it was a good decision.)

That’s all for now. HAPPY FRIDAY!

Fall run

Hello, friends. I did the running thing last night and, holy crap, it’s almost fall!

You know how I know?

Whoa!

Fun facts: Fall is my favorite season. October is my favorite month. Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday (obviously). Haunted houses, pumpkin patches, scary movies, corn mazes, etc. are my favorite seasonal activities. Long sleeves, cozy sweaters and fuzzy socks are my favorite clothes.

Hehe.

Anyway. The running thing. I did 6 miles in 55:42 (9:17 pace), which felt kind of agonizing and slow, but was not. It was just kind of jarring to suddenly be running and not lounging in my bed eating chocolate chips.

My Garmin has apparently decided to throw split-seconds (or whatever those are called) into the mix, which I will have to fix ASAP. Do. Not. Like.

What’s your favorite season and why? More specifically, if it’s not fall, ARE YOU CRAZY??

(I love fall.)
