Familia

I went to my mom’s house last night for my brother’s 27th birthday celebration, which included pizza, beer, cake and ice cream — yay for that 4 mile run earlier!!

Please note: That is my mother, not my sister. She runs or otherwise works out five days a week and could probably annihilate me in an arm wrestling competition. She is also doing Warrior Dash in July. Pretty sure I have the coolest mom ever.

Thanks to Aaron for taking the photo and for being a great Cranium partner. VICTORY IS OURS!!

FINALLY!

I haven’t uploaded my runs to Nike+ for a looong time, so I finally did today and noticed there are now MILE SPLITS available! Hallelujah!

Yesterday’s cold, rainy, miserable run from Aaron’s place to Green Lake, around the lake and back (training plan called for 4 miles):

And the splits (not including the last .33 mile):

You can tell by the increasing pace each mile that it got colder, wetter and tougher throughout the journey…

This was the first time I’d voluntarily run in the rain — meaning it was already raining when we started and we decided to go anyway. I’m usually a wimp about being cold and wet, but I didn’t want to bail on my 10K training plan in the first week.

And, as with all runs, I was glad I went.

CONGRATS to everyone who ran in the rain, ran a race or ran a race in the rain (TheMightyLife, holla!) this weekend!!!

In case you were dying of curiosity. I know I would be.

Julia Roberts: “Well, it was nice to meet you. Surreal, but nice.”

Hugh Grant: “Thank you. You are Horse & Hound’s favorite actress. You and Black Beauty. Tied.”

Workout + dinner

2 miles, 19:28. Did three segments of Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones DVD at home while dinner was in the oven:

– Shoulders & legs
– Chest & abs
– Biceps & butt

Dinner: tilapia with lemon and garlic + sauteed mixed veggies. Yum!

(I rarely take the time to cook a legit healthy meal, so when I do, I make sure to photograph it and pretend I do it all the time…)

(Also, that is a sweet horse-and-hound plate that I got with a bunch of free stuff from somebody’s garage in college. You can see the hound’s legs between the veggies and the fish. Don’t be too jealous.)

Late night, gym anyway!

Work has been intense since I got back from Hawaii, but I’ve not gotten frustrated yet because I still have that fresh-from-vacation it’s-all-good mentality! Also, my 10K training helps me let off steam at night.

About to head to the gym for 2 miles, and then I’ll hit my hand weights when I get home. Gotta grab a spoonful of peanut butter and honey first!!

I’m always a little hungry before I run and I tend to eat something right beforehand — usually a granola bar or a piece of toast. Yesterday, it was a spoonful of Funfetti frosting straight from the can (oops).

Does anyone else eat something for a little boost before running? Any suggestions for quick things that are easy on the tummy?

First tempo of 10K training

Purple face! Big sweaty times! It’s good to be back on the treadmill.

4 miles in 40 minutes while watching Marquette beat West Virginia.

My tempo:

– 15 minutes between 10:10 and 10:30 pace
– 15 minutes between 9:10 and 9:30 pace
– 10 minutes between 10:00 and 10:20 pace

I had to keep going back and forth, faster/slower, because I’ve definitely lost some endurance since my last 5K. I pushed it a bit in the end to get to 4 miles because I like round numbers. A lot.

I’ve also decided to not be upset about the 4:30 time limit for the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon. I’m gonna train like hell and run that mother anyway.

Earning myself a DNF — Did Not Finish — is a helluva lot better than Did Not Try.

So… yeah. I’m running the Vegas strip at night!!

I would be super-duper-duper excited about this, except for the fact that there’s a 4:30 time limit on the marathon. Really?? For my first marathon, I don’t know if I can do that…

But the marathon and the half cost the same right now (super cheap — $121) and I can always drop down to the half, which has a time limit of 4:00 (uhhh, yeah, I can probably do that).

Either way, I’M RUNNING VEGAS! Are you??
