Sawatdi Pi Mai! (Happy New Year!)
All of Thailand is in the midst of celebrating Songkran, the Thai New Year, and Chiang Mai has the biggest, baddest, longest celebration of all — so that’s where I am, of course!
The celebration is essentially a multi-day water fight, and you can’t go anywhere in the city without becoming instantly soaked by squirt guns and buckets of (often ice-cold) water. You can’t avoid it… you must simply throw on a swimsuit, grab your weapon of choice and fight back!
There are also food vendors, concerts, DJs, etc. And dancing. Oh my, the dancing.
And this madness goes on for at least two more days. Woooo!
